It was 1965, I was 5 years old and my Dad bought me a minibike from my cousin for $35.00. The first thing I did was tear it apart, paint the frame metallic purple and the engine got a coat of gold paint. My Mom made me a leopard skin seatcover and my buddy's Dad extended my front forks by jamming some water pipe over the forks. My first chopper was born, apehangers and all.
I started riding dirt bikes soon after and began racing when I was 14. When I turned 16, I got a job repairing lawnmowers and in my spare time worked on my motorcycles. I started racing in Endurance Races in Northern Michigan and of course, I couldn't just have a normal bike. I would buy race bikes off pro-riders that were all tricked-out and had only a season on them, ripped them down to the frame, restored them, then raced them for one season and sell them.
A few years later, I started working for a large tractor and farm supply distributor as a service technician, working on everything from chainsaws to John Deere tractors.
In 1980, I purchased a brand new Harley Davidson Low Rider, rode it home, ripped it apart, changed the paint and made it mine. It wasn't long and I started working on and customizing friends' Harleys, changing the paint, swapping wheels, cutting and stretching frames, anything to personalize the bike and make it different. I started entering my bikes in local bike shows and won countless awards and trophies. And thus, Black Swamp Choppers was born.
Currently, we are building our own frames, up to 360mm tires, and have our own line of fender blanks available. We can custom build or fabricate anything that you may need. All of our engines are built to your specs, up to 150ci, in house. We try hard to keep everything updated on our website, although it is best to call for the most current information. We also carry the full line of Lucas Oil products. |
